Building on the growing academeโindustry synergy between Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc. (HCCCI) and Rell and Renn Fishing Corporation (RRFC), a significant step forward was taken through an Inception Technical Discussion held on March 16, 2024. This engagement marks not just a single initiative, but an expansion of a shared long-term research endeavor where industry partners are not only collaborators, but active recipients and beneficiaries of research-driven solutions.
The meeting brought together key figures from both institutions, including HCCCI Director for Research and Extension, Mr. Marlon Viejo, NHSAFI Academic Director, Dr. Rogelio Rasay, and RRFC General Manager, Mr. Neil del Rosario. More than a formal discussion, the session served as a strategic alignment of visionsโgrounded in the belief that research must move beyond theory and directly respond to the real and evolving needs of the industry.
Central to the conversation was the exploration of the Saganang Pagkain Para sa Lahat (SAPAT) Program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). With its focus on strengthening food production systems and ensuring access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food, the program strongly resonates with RRFCโs operations. This alignment positions the partnership to co-develop research initiatives that are both scientifically grounded and immediately applicable within the fishing sector.
As part of this expanding collaboration, both parties committed to actionable next steps, including the conduct of a Research Proposal Writing Workshop tailored for RRFC personnel. This initiative aims to empower industry practitioners to take an active role in shaping research directions, identifying priority challenges, and co-creating solutions. Selected proposals will be endorsed to DOST Region XII for potential funding, reinforcing the shared goal of translating research into tangible, industry-level impact.
This milestone further solidifies HCCCIโs role as a catalyst for meaningful partnershipsโwhere knowledge creation is not confined within academic walls, but is co-developed with industry stakeholders and returned to them as transformative, practical outcomes. As this long-term endeavor continues to grow, it contributes significantly to advancing Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)โdemonstrating how sustained collaboration can drive inclusive growth, innovation, and food security for communities.
