COIL UPDATES | HCCCI and University of Hawai‘i at Hilo Launch COIL SP25
Today, April 10, 2025, Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc. proudly launched COIL SP25. It is a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project with the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗶‘𝗶 𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗼.
COIL SP25 also serves as a meaningful extension of HCCCI and UHH’s earlier COIL collaboration, where business students from both institutions developed business plans for products from indigenous groups. Now, the partnership expands to include students from Pharmacy, Business, and Criminology, advancing the vision of sustainability, innovation, and global learning.
This initiative brings together minds across the Pacific to co-create a 𝗖𝗼𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 (𝗖𝗪𝗜𝗖), spotlighting indigenous products and services from both the Philippines and Hawai‘i, while aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
The kick-off ceremony was warmly hosted by Mr. Kelly Moran and Ms. Jenna Feng from the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, setting the tone with heartfelt and enthusiastic introductions. Representing HCCCI, faculty members Kimberly Jean B. Surmion, RPh, MSPharm, Eric A. Gatmaitan, MBA, and Rodney C. Sumugat, RCrim are guiding students from the Colleges of Allied Health and Sciences, Business Studies, and Criminal Justice—ensuring a learning experience that is relevant, interdisciplinary, and globally attuned.
Through virtual teamwork, intercultural dialogue, and purpose-driven innovation, COIL SP25 is more than a virtual classroom—it’s a space for building empathy, creativity, and future-ready skills.
Together, we are shaping a new generation of learners—globally aware, socially responsible, and ready to lead with impact.
