Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc. (HCCCI) proudly launched the Philippine Visual Arts Summit 2024: Visual Arts Forum and Launching Ceremonies on December 17, 2024, at its Surallah campus in South Cotabato. The summit was not only a celebration of Philippine visual arts but also a platform for multi-stakeholder collaboration and policy dialogue, demonstrating HCCCIโs leadership in supporting sustainable cultural development and contributing to national and regional SDG initiatives.
The event brought together key leaders, artists, local government officials, national agencies, NGOs, and educational institutions, creating a space to identify challenges in cultural preservation, develop strategies for arts development, and model likely futures for sustainable cultural engagement. Distinguished guests included Mr. Carlo Ebeo, Commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and Dr. Dennis Montera, Head of the NCCA National Committee on Visual Arts (NCVA). During the summit, HCCCI received its Accreditation Certificate from the NCCA, recognizing the schoolโs dedication to promoting arts, culture, and education in the region.
The summit featured inspiring talks from some of the Philippines' most renowned visual artists. Abraham โAmboโ Garcia, Jr., PhD, discussed "Visual Arts in the Philippines: Mindanao Focus (Continuity and Transformation)," highlighting Mindanaoโs rich artistic heritage. Michael E. Bacol explored innovation in contemporary arts through his presentation, "Breaking Boundaries: Innovation in Contemporary Arts," while Al-Nezzar Ali guided the audience on "Visual Arts: A Journey Through Time and Style," tracing the evolution of artistic expression. These sessions not only celebrated creativity but also provided insights to guide policy, strategy, and interventions in arts development, reflecting HCCCIโs role in shaping sustainable cultural initiatives.
Local art groups, including the Bugkos Visual Arts Group from Surallah and the Kkogon Visual Arts Group from Koronadal, participated actively, adding a strong community dimension to the summit. Students from Surallah and members of the HCCCI community attended in person, while audiences from other areas joined via Zoom and Facebook Live, ensuring the eventโs outcomes reached a wider audience and promoted the sharing of best practices across regions.
The successful launch of the Philippine Visual Arts Summit 2024 underscores HCCCIโs ongoing commitment to cultural growth, community engagement, and collaborative leadership. By convening government agencies, NGOs, and educational institutions, the university contributes to policy development, monitoring, and adaptive management of arts and cultural programs, ensuring that interventions are effective and sustainable.
Through initiatives like this, HCCCI continues to champion the arts, foster innovation, and lead efforts that strengthen communities while informing national and regional strategies, reflecting the universityโs mission to create meaningful impact in both education and societal development.
