The 2026 Regional Schools Press Conference organized by the Department of Education โ DepEd SOCCSKSARGEN brought together campus journalists from across the region in a public and face-to-face competition held on February 25โ28, 2026, in the Municipality of Surallah. Among those invited to take part in this meaningful academic gathering was Juliet Arellano-Castaรฑas, MAEd, Head of the Center of Institutional Performance and Quality of Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc., who served as one of the official judges.
The Regional Schools Press Conference is more than just a competition. It is a celebration of young voices, courage, and creativity. Elementary and secondary learners compete in various categories such as copyreading, feature writing, and broadcast journalism, while learning the value of accuracy, fairness, and responsible storytelling.
Juliet Arellano-Castaรฑas, MAEd, was formally invited by the Regional Management Team to evaluate selected English categories, including Copyreading for Elementary and Secondary levels, TV Broadcast, and Feature Writing. Her role required not only technical expertise but also discernment and integrity, ensuring that each studentโs effort was assessed with fairness and respect.
At its core, the program nurtures critical thinkers and truth-seekers. It trains students to analyze issues carefully, communicate clearly, and uphold ethical standards in media. Beyond trophies and certificates, the conference builds confidence, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility among young communicators.
The initiative supports several Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education by promoting inclusive and skill-based learning opportunities. It also advances SDG 5 on Gender Equality by providing equal platforms for young journalists regardless of background and the SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by encouraging ethical journalism and responsible information sharing. Moreover, it contributes to SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration among schools, educators, and regional leaders.
Through events like the RSPC, communities benefit from informed and empowered youth who can communicate issues responsibly and inspire positive change. The skills developed during the conference ripple outward by strengthening dialogue in schools, encouraging civic awareness, and promoting a culture of truth and accountability in society.
Through active participation in initiatives that promote excellence and integrity, HCCCI continues to stand as a strong pillar of transformative education through empowering minds, shaping character, and inspiring service-driven leadership for generations to come.
