Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc. (HCCCI) participated in the 30th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Provincial Elimination held on October 2, 2026, at the South East Asian Institute of Technology, Inc. (SEAIT) in Tupi, South Cotabato. Representing the institution were first-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing students Jaderyn S. Deguira and Justin B. Dosado, with Deguira securing third runner-up and qualifying for the regional competition.
The students competed under the guidance of their coach, Francis Llyod L. Galanida, LPT, MST. Their participation demonstrated HCCCIโs commitment to providing students with opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom, strengthen their analytical abilities, and engage in academic competitions that promote statistical literacy.
Organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in collaboration with the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI), the Philippine Statistics Quiz is an annual nationwide competition that assesses the statistical knowledge of first-year college students. It aims to develop statistical talent, foster appreciation for statistics, and promote awareness of the importance of reliable statistical information in development planning and evidence-based decision-making.
Deguiraโs achievement and the participation of both HCCCI representatives highlight the value of mathematics and statistics in developing critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. These competencies are particularly relevant to nursing education, where numerical accuracy and data interpretation support medication calculations, patient assessment, health research, and evidence-based healthcare practices. Through the competition, students also gain opportunities to apply their knowledge and demonstrate their academic capabilities in a challenging environment.
HCCCIโs participation aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting academic development and lifelong learning; SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through the relevance of quantitative and statistical literacy to nursing and healthcare; and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by recognizing the role of data analysis in research and informed decision-making.
Following the provincial competition, Deguira is set to represent HCCCI at the PSQ Regional Level Competition on October 14, 2026. HCCCI recognizes both Deguira and Dosado for their participation, alongside their coach, Galanida, for guiding the students in this academic endeavor. The institution looks forward to Deguiraโs continued participation as she advances to the next level of the competition.
