Demonstrating its commitment to compassion and community service, the Department of Student Affairs and Services (DSAS) of Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc. (HCCCI), through its COMMUNEKTA initiatives, successfully conducted "Bridges that Feed and Heal" on July 3, 2026, in Lagao, General Santos City. The outreach activity was organized to provide relief and support to families affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the region on June 8, 2026.
The activity was carried out in collaboration with the Lions Club of Singapore Patterson and Classify Inc., bringing together organizations committed to helping communities recover from the effects of the disaster. Through the distribution of essential assistance and the collective efforts of volunteers, the initiative provided not only immediate relief but also encouragement and hope to families as they continue rebuilding their lives.
Representing HCCCI during the outreach were Ms. Vivian Caballero from the Finance Office, Ms. Kathleen Gantalao, Ms. Ezel Sumalinog, DSAS Community Extension Services Coordinator Ms. Grasya T. Lumba, who documented the activity, and members of the institution's Utility Personnel, who provided logistical support throughout the outreach. Together with volunteers from the Lions Club of Singapore Patterson and Classify Inc., they helped ensure the successful implementation of the program and the efficient distribution of assistance to the beneficiaries.
The outreach was conducted under COMMUNEKTA, HCCCI's flagship community engagement initiative that bridges opportunities, resources, and meaningful partnerships with communities. Guided by the belief that education extends beyond the classroom, COMMUNEKTA empowers the institution to respond to societal needs through collaborative initiatives that promote compassion, volunteerism, and social responsibility.
For the HCCCI community, the activity served as an opportunity to translate the institution's core values into meaningful action. By participating in humanitarian efforts, employees and volunteers strengthened their commitment to service while fostering empathy, solidarity, and a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable communities.
For the beneficiaries, "Bridges that Feed and Heal" provided more than material assistance. It served as a reminder that they are not alone in their journey toward recovery. The outreach highlighted the power of compassion and collaboration in helping communities heal and rebuild after a devastating natural disaster.
The conduct of the outreach contributes to the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1: No Poverty, by extending essential relief and support to vulnerable families affected by the earthquake; SDG 2: Zero Hunger, by providing food assistance to help address immediate nutritional needs; SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by promoting the physical and emotional well-being of disaster-affected communities; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by supporting disaster recovery efforts and strengthening community resilience; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through the collaboration among Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc., the Lions Club of Singapore Patterson, and Classify Inc. in delivering meaningful humanitarian assistance.
Through initiatives like COMMUNEKTA, Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc. continues to strengthen its culture of service by building bridges of hope, fostering collaborative partnerships, and making a positive impact in the lives of communities, proving that true education is measured not only by academic excellence but also by compassion in action.
