On April 30, 2026, Holy Child Central Colleges Inc. (HCCCI) Campus 1 held a campus-based environmental engagement program participated in by 39 first-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology students, together with faculty and staff members. Conducted on-site at HCCCI Campus 1, the activity was carried out in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Surallah – Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.
The activity was organized to deepen students’ understanding of environmental responsibility and encourage them to become more mindful of their role in caring for the environment. Through meaningful discussions and participation, the event created an opportunity for students to connect their learning inside the classroom with the realities faced by communities in protecting natural resources.
The program was facilitated by Prefect of Discipline Marizza L. Dardo and Community Extension Coordinator Grasya T. Lumba, whose dedication and guidance helped make the activity engaging and purposeful. Their efforts, together with the support of the partner agency, created a collaborative learning environment where students were encouraged to participate actively and responsibly.
More than just an environmental activity, the program served as a reminder that small actions can contribute to meaningful change. It highlighted the importance of proper waste management, environmental awareness, and responsible citizenship while encouraging students to become more proactive in promoting sustainability in their everyday lives.
The initiative also reflected the institution’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals. It supported SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting experiential and community-centered learning, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by encouraging environmental awareness, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through discussions on responsible practices, SDG 13 (Climate Action) by inspiring environmental action, SDG 15 (Life on Land) by promoting care for nature and ecosystems, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Surallah.
By bringing together students, educators, and community partners, the activity encouraged a stronger sense of shared responsibility toward environmental preservation. It helped inspire individuals to become more conscious of how their actions can influence not only their surroundings but also the well-being of future generations.
Students shared that the activity made them feel more aware of current environmental concerns and motivated them to become more responsible members of the community. Facilitators and partners also expressed appreciation for the students’ active participation and willingness to learn beyond the four corners of the classroom.
As the institution continues to provide meaningful opportunities for learning and service, it remains grounded in its core values of Spiritual Growth, Teamwork and Creativity, Accountability and Discipline, Integrity and Trust, Reliability, and Serviceability and Social Responsibility. These values continue to guide HCCCI in forming individuals who are not only academically capable but also socially and environmentally responsible.
Through initiatives like this, HCCCI continues to nurture learners who value community involvement, environmental stewardship, and responsible action, reflecting the institution’s continuing commitment to quality education and meaningful service.
