Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc. (HCCCI) Information Officer Rio Chrizl M. Nerecina, LPT, earned the Best Presenter Award at the 9th Bandung Annual International Conference Social & Humanities Research Symposium (BAIC SoRes) 2026, recognizing her research presentation on digital language learning at Universitas Islam Bandung (UNISBA), Indonesia, on September 10, 2026.

Nerecina received the award for presenting the study “Talk at Your Fingertips: A Phenomenological Study of Senior High School Students’ Experiences Using Duolingo for Effective English Communication,” which she co-researched with Charlene Joy T. Saligumba, LPT.

The international symposium brought together researchers and scholars to present studies and exchange perspectives on emerging concerns in the social sciences and humanities. This year’s conference carried the theme “Green Halal Economy and Innovation: Advancing Circularity and Community Resilience,” highlighting research and innovation that contribute to sustainable development and resilient communities.

Nerecina and Saligumba’s study examined the experiences of senior high school students using Duolingo as a digital language-learning platform, particularly in developing English communication skills. Using a phenomenological approach, the research focused on learners’ perspectives and experiences, providing insights into how digital tools can complement conventional language instruction.

The study highlights the potential of accessible digital platforms to support language learning while helping students develop greater confidence and competence in English communication. Its findings contribute to the continuing conversation on how technology can be meaningfully integrated into contemporary educational practice.

For HCCCI, the recognition also reflects the growing role of research and international academic exchange in strengthening educational practice. Nerecina’s achievement demonstrates how members of the institution can contribute research-based perspectives to international discussions while bringing relevant insights back to the HCCCI community.

The research aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education through its exploration of technology-supported language learning, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities through accessible digital learning opportunities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through cross-border academic exchange and research collaboration.

Nerecina’s Best Presenter Award adds another milestone to HCCCI’s continuing research and international engagement. More than a recognition for a single presentation, the achievement underscores the value of research that examines real student experiences and emerging technologies to identify practical approaches for improving learning.

Through research, academic exchange, and international participation, HCCCI continues to encourage its faculty and employees to contribute knowledge beyond the institution and help translate research into more responsive, relevant, and meaningful educational experiences.
